About the event
Mental Health First Aid Courses are designed to give individuals the skills they need to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem. Participants learn the facts and warning signs of mental illness and substances use disorders. Trainees are taught how to apply the 5-step strategy in a variety of situations, such as helping someone through a panic attack, engaging with someone who may be suicidal, or assisting an individual who has overdosed. An important component of the MHFA training is the opportunity to practice the intervention strategy. This simple experience can make it easier to actually apply the knowledge in a real-life situation.
Virtual Mental Health First Aid courses will consist of a two-hour learning session that participants will need to complete on their own before coming together with multiple participants for a 5-6 hour session over Zoom with a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor.
When you register for a class, you are registering for the Zoom portion of the class and will separately receive a link to the online portion to be completed ahead of time. For this reason, we ask that you register for classes at least seven full days prior to the date you select. If you need to change your registration, we will be able to assist you with this, too. We will need to make sure there is ample time to connect you into the self-directed portion of the program prior to the group learning session.
Virtual MHFA classes are limited to 20 participants.
